Dalston 4 London

the dalston area action plan

consultation period 9/3/09 to 20/4/09

Also known as 'The Dalston Masterplan', this document has just been published by Hackney Council and is intended to shape both the short and long term regeneration of the Dalston town centre area. It is very retail and residential led, and will have a huge effect on businesses in the area if implemented. The full plan is 128 pages long plus illustrations and indices and can be viewed and downloaded from the Council web site:

http://www.hackney.gov.uk/ep-policy-aap-dalston.htm

The Council have also prepared a bite size version which is displayed a little further down the page above under the title 'Dalston Masterplan leaflet', which you can download here. This is a quick summary of what the Council's 'preferred options' extracted from the full plan would mean for Dalston town centre, and also what additional works are being proposed in the longer term, in the form of 'bullet point' summaries. This leaflet is also available from all Hackney libraries.

D4L urges all Dalston businesses to look at the summary and fill in and return one of the feedback forms. Copies of the summary documents (but not the full plan) and feedback forms are available at all the public libraries in the Borough (you may have to ask for them), and there is a series of Council-led consultation events. The Council have repeatedly said that nothing is yet decided, so this is our chance to influence our future. Local community action group OPEN Dalston is organising a series of consultation events to draw attention to some alternatives to the Council's 'preferred options'. You can find details of their events listed underneath the Council's events below. Come along to some of the events, make your own mind up and then please FILL IN A FEEDBACK FORM.
